Information Architecture Design or Redesign

Information architecture describes the blueprint or skeleton of your Web site (or of any product you produce). As many artists know, if you can’t draw a skeleton properly, you will never be able to draw a realistic-looking human body. Similarly, if the skeleton of your Web site is broken or badly constructed, you will never be able to create an excellent customer experience.

If you are redesigning, one of the first steps is to ‘reverse engineer’ the existing Web site or product. This involves removing all of the design elements, branding, and messaging to uncover the underlying structure. Once the structure is exposed, navigation and information organization issues are easy to spot—if you know where to look.

I will help you look beyond the design elements of your current site to see the structure underneath in a new way. I can show you how to create an 'x-ray view' of your site's skeleton so that you can discover structural problems that could be interfering with your customer experience. I can also help you fix any structural problems using techniques that you will be able to use on your own in the future.

If you are creating a new site or product, we will use information architecture principles to create and iterate the blueprint first. Once the blueprint is designed, we can test it before you spend time and resources building the end product.

Customer experience is dogfood you should be eating every day. If you don't have good processes and smooth communication between your internal teams, how on earth can you expect to create a great experience for your customers?
